There are few things more annoying that when your iPhone stops responding to your touch. It is frustrating when your smartphone won’t work because not only are these devices expensive, we are dependent on them in our technologically advanced world. It could be disruptive to your work or personal life. Before you start really freaking out, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot your unresponsive iPhone touchscreen:

Force applications to stop

Oftentimes, an iPhone freezes because an application is taking up a lot of its memory. If two apps are being run at the same time, the chances of this happening are much greater. To do this, hold down the home button until the application closes and you can use your screen again.

Restart your iPhone

If closing the applications doesn’t work, you may need to completely restart your phone. Press the on/off switch until the red bar appears on the screen. Power down, then turn it back on. In most cases, the iPhone will work.

Reset your iPhone

Sometimes, even after restarting, your iPhone will still be unresponsive. In this case, you will have to reset your iPhone, meaning you force it to shutdown without the normal process. Press the on/off switch until the Apple logo appears on the screen, then disappears. Wait a few seconds, then restart the phone.

Restore it with iTunes

If nothing else works, connect your iPhone to your computer and start iTunes. Select “Restore” underneath the Summary pane. If your iPhone does not come up in iTunes, you may have to force it into recovery.
